WE Magazine for Women has added "Women Will Save the World" to their "Worth Reading" list! They have also featured an interview with bestselling author and ALP founder Caroline A. Shearer.
“What it comes down to, if you’re
taking a long time to finish a book. It’s not because you don’t have the time
or the inspiration. It’s because you’re afraid. You’ve got to get over being afraid.” – Caroline A. Shearer
Last Friday, ALP founder and bestselling author Caroline A. Shearer and ALP editor Sarah Hackley joined Sharyn Abbott and Dave Daley on their blogtalk radio show "Secrets of Getting Published Now." Caroline was inspiring as usual, as she explained how ALP's assisted self-publishing imprint, Spirited Press, operates. "Everyone has their own little place [in the process of self-publishing] where they might get stuck. It's all different for everybody. But the more we can learn and the more we can share with each other, the easier it is for us to get beyond those little blips that hold us back. Then we can move forward and do what we want to do."
Sarah described the feeling of authors who find themselves "stuck" early on. "Maybe they knew how to begin, but they got mired in the details, or their enthusiasm has waned. That's the point when coaching services can be of help."
Caroline and Sarah also discussed:
- Benefits of assisted self-publishing every author should consider,
- How authors can maximize their income,
- Why entrepreneurs should publish a book, and
- The #1 thing new authors need to know!
Get nothing but the best advice. Listen to the full interview now!
Sharyn Abbott is a speaker, author, trainer, and "all around networking aficionado!" Her credentials include a lifetime of entrepreneurial success, in addition to an extensive business consulting background in both entrepreneurial and corporate environments.

How Will Women Save the World?
Let us count the ways ...
Strength
Sarah Hackley
“We
hope to live in such a way that our children are better for having known us.”
Sarah Hackley is one
multi-talented lady! She is the editor for both Absolute Love Publishing and
its assisted self-publishing imprint, Spirited Press. She is also an author,
ghostwriter, editor, and published poet. Through her work at ALP and Spirited
Press, Sarah provides individualized, comprehensive editing services to authors
seeking to bring light and inspiration to the world. A passionate believer that
the written word can change lives, Sarah is deeply honored to be a part of
these projects.
In addition to editing the book, Sarah also contributed an essay
on Feminine Strength for the ALP compilation, “Women Will Save the World.” She
describes how she misinterpreted having strength as always pushing forward and
never letting emotions get the best of her. Through time, she realized this was
not going to work. She realized that feminine strength was not about shutting
everything out or stuffing it away somewhere, it was “letting the world in.”
We recently had a chance to ask
Sarah how she’s been using her Feminine Strength to save the world lately.
ALP: Hi Sarah! So, tell us, what have you been working on since WWSTW?
Sarah: “I have been
enjoying my role as editor for Absolute Love Publishing and Spirited Press. A
few months ago, I had the opportunity of being interviewed alongside Caroline
for the radio show, Conscious Discussions with Lillian Brummet. I’ve also been
guest blogging for writing websites online. Most recently, I had an article
about the ‘Art of Editing’ featured on Where Writers Win. I'm currently writing a nonfiction book on the topics of financial independence and
emotional healing for women. I'm also writing a mystery novel, and enjoying my
five-month-old son.”
ALP: How
does being an editor at a publishing company help you to save the world?
Sarah: “I've always believed that the written word can
change lives (Mary Pipher's Writing to Change the World is one of my favorite writing
books), and my work at ALP and Spirited Press enables me to do that by helping
others spread their messages of love, peace, and positivity to the world.”
ALP: Sounds lovely! In
the book, you open up about a breakthrough regarding the way you handled
trauma. Is there anything therapeutic you find about writing?
Sarah: “In a way, yes. Writing
has been my lifeline ever since I was a young girl. It gives me the space I need
to make sense both of the world around me and the world within me. I can't
really process something until I've written about it.”
ALP: You
also discuss feminine strength and how it's about "letting the world
in." Is there any advice you can give other women who may struggle with
this? How does one let the walls come down a little?
Sarah: “Trauma tends to make us curl tighter into
ourselves. Those of us who have experienced it
often go through a stage where
we feel the world is a scary and troubling place, a place where we are
completely out of control. In some ways, that's true. But, it isn't the whole
truth. There are still some things we can control, including whether we choose
to let love back into our lives and into our hearts or whether we choose to be
lost and closed off forever. Ultimately, it's our choice. Anyone who wants to
let the world back in just needs to take it one small step at a time. Choose
one moment or one person and go from there. No one said the walls have to come
down all at once.”
ALP: Beautifully
said! Looking forward: What plans do you have for the next year? Any goals
you’ve set out to accomplish?
Sarah: “2013 is going to be a big year for me. I
foresee a lot of editing projects, which I love, as well as several big
personal projects. [Says smiling] but that's all I'm willing to say for now.”

Trailblazing
Kate Neligan
“It
became apparent that to really embrace my mission, I would need to step into my
greatness and let go of my old ego ways.”
Kate Neligan is the founder and CEO of Mindful Media Entertainment LLC and
Synergy TV. Mindful Media is a conscious media studio poised to elevate the
collective consciousness of the planet through mindful movies and
transformational television. Synergy TV is an on demand and online channel that
entertains, enlightens, and inspires.
In the book, “Women Will Save the
World,” Kate describes her transition of becoming a trailblazer. By the time
she was 31, Kate was the vice president of a major movie studio. She had climbed
the corporate ladder, had manifested everything she thought she wanted, yet she
felt unfulfilled. Then she realized she needed to forge a new path. She started
her company while still working overtime at the movie studio. Synchronicity
took over and in 2012 she was able to fully step into the role of entrepreneur.
We recently had the opportunity to coordinate an interview to see how she is saving the world lately.
ALP: It sounds like you are breaking a lot of new ground lately!
Please tell us more about what inspired you to start the “GiftPlayLove”
service.
Kate: “The service was originally conceptualized to be a day brightener and then evolved into its deeper purpose which is to share love through stories. I’ve always felt like movies are great gifts and short films are rarely monetized and yet people share them all the time. I felt like there was a lot of potential for filmmakers to make money from these videos, especially since one of the first shorts we brought in had 2 million views on YouTube. And I love helping charities so I wanted to include the opportunity to raise money for them as well. I figured if we synergized with filmmakers and charities, we would all promote the inspirational stories and the service and create a triple win. I felt Facebook was the perfect platform because you can tell instantly if your friend or loved one is having a bad day and needs to be cheered up or if there is something that needs to be celebrated with a gift.”
ALP: Would you say that you used the Law of Attraction to
accomplish this?
Kate: “I do use the Law of Attraction often and I make sure to set clear intentions. The roadblocks in creating GiftPlayLove amazed me. I was really questioning the whole project and if it would even launch. But, it was really in my heart to do it. It really became a matter of raising my vibration to the level of creation in order to manifest. I was treating the launch like a to-do list. But then I got clear that this is all about sharing love and I shifted and it finally launched.”
ALP: What is it that inspires you to save the world in the ways
that you do?
Kate: “Raising
humanity’s consciousness is one of my deepest desires. I ask myself, how can we
synergize? We need to help
each other and our planet. I feel that sometimes we lose sight of where we want to be in 10 years
as a society because we are so focused on what we want right now. The truth is we need to
think about our collective future, the other generations, and the legacy we leave behind. What kind
of environment are we creating? Saving the world for me is really about creating sustainable
systems people feel more comfortable living in and solutions that work. There is deep hurt
going on in the world and we need to stop creating from our wounded places. Every little
choice makes a difference. My goal with Synergy TV, and with all that I do, is to be inspired and
to inspire others to make more conscious choices. In my Master’s program at USM, I learned from my
mentor Dr. Ron Hulnick that 'as we heal one issue, all of humanity moves forward.'”

Rochelle Forrest
“Women
lead with our hearts, not our heads.”
After 30 years of service in the
primary and aligned health professions, Rochelle Forrest founded her own
company, Create Health Naturally. She wanted to address what she felt was
lacking in the treatment of patients: a holistic view of their lives to reveal
the causal aspects of their ill health. She empowers people to happiness and
her work is changing the world, one person at a time.
In the book, “Women Will Save theWorld,” Rochelle describes having an awakening. She saw the divinity in nature,
in the rhythm of the seasons. She realized that helping others meant healing
herself; that’s when her inner trail began to blaze.
How she continues to save the world today:
Rochelle has founded, and
currently manages, the nonprofit organization Tummies, Minds, and Spirits. TMS
was created in order to fund other nonprofits that are focused on alleviating
“poverty of the mind” by turning passive recipients of aid into healthy,
economically active citizens.
Rochelle recently traveled to
Cape Town, South Africa, a trip that resulted in her desire to merge the
fundamentals of primary and psycho-social health care with education
principles. We had the wonderful opportunity to ask her a few questions about
her latest endeavors.
ALP: In the book, “Women Will Save the World,” you describe your
decision to help others as an “awakening.” Did you experience something similar
on your recent trip?
Rochelle: “In South Africa,
there is a system that is working and has documented outcomes with amazing
leadership in place. All they needed was funding. I knew that I could fill
their needs. My heart was called to expand their vision and make the system
duplicable. At the same time that it was placed on my heart, I realized that I
am to develop sustainable income for future generations to be impacted.”
ALP: Can you offer insight on what continues to inspire you to
save the world?
Rochelle: “I have known my
whole life that I have been grown for greatness and service. I have more energy
that anyone I know. I believe that together we can end cycles of mind
poverty. My vision [of saving the world] is working together globally with a
sustainable blue print for education and finances.
“‘When someone has been given much, much will be required in return; and
when someone has been entrusted with much, even more will be required. Luke 12:48’”
Tummies, Minds, and Spirits has
aligned with Community Cohesion, an existing NGO (Non-
Governmental
Organization) with a proven track record of working in the field of
psycho-social education and support in Cape Town. Rochelle has described this
work as, “Children leading children with no boundaries or blinders.” The
organizations are planning to roll out The Hangberg Project, which will
contribute to a repeatable, sustainable system that can be implemented globally
to empower communities and relieve “poverty of the mind.”

"Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac
Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac has produced over forty Top 50 hits and sold over 140 million albums. She has been deemed "The Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll" and one of the "100 Greatest Singers of All Time" by Rolling Stone.
This song goes out to the Trailblazers. The ones who have a burning desire to go their "own way" through life. Trailblazing is an urge to be independent and an inherent feminine quality.
This week we will be catching up with "Women Will Save the World" Trailblazers Rochelle Forrest and Kate Neligan. Check out our historical profiles on trailblazers Nellie Bly and Amelia Earhart to find out how they have used this quality to save the world.

Wisdom
Sue Lee
“I
have a zest for life that is unstoppable.”
Sue Lee is a Life Management
Skills educator and the creator of “I Believe in Me!” a DVD for preschoolers,
which received two national recognitions – a Parents’ Choice Award and a KIDS
FIRST! media endorsement.
In the ALP compilation, “WomenWill Save the World,” Sue Lee shares lessons from a wise woman—her mother. Sue’s
mom taught her something that we might identify today as the Law of Being. If
you want something, act as though you already have it. She said: “’You can be
anything you wish to be and become like anyone you wish to become. Just ‘be’ it,
become the trait you wish to have.’” It sounds easy, and that’s because it is!
We caught up with Sue Lee last
December while she was organizing her Sock-it-to-em Sock Campaign, which
included a “No Socks to Work Day.” In an effort to raise sock donations for the
homeless, participants of the event were asked to go without socks on 12/12/12
and to donate a pair instead. Sue met with a high level of success, collecting
over 10,000 pairs of socks! She garnered widespread community involvement, including
local sports team the Denver Nuggets!
We got a chance recently to chat
with Sue about her progress, her inspiration, and her future plans.
ALP: What inspires you to save the world in the ways that you
do?
Sue: “Like many of
us I think I discovered that natural pull to ‘save’ the world as a young child.
The aspect that one human can influence and encourage others has always been
profound for me. What we’ve done with the Sock-it-to-em Sock Campaign is pretty
simple. We can warm our hearts by helping to warm someone’s feet.”
ALP: Speaking of the power of one woman’s influence, can you
share more about how your campaign started and how you met with such success?
Sue: “The idea for
the Sock-it-to-em Sock Campaign for the homeless came to me while grocery
shopping– it was one of those ideas that hits out of the blue, takes hold, and
is constantly present in mind and heart. I couldn’t let go of it and so in 2012
I said to my friend Phillis Shimamoto, ‘Come and do this with me and we’ll take
it national.’ Our intention was to just send out emails the week of
Thanksgiving and ask our friends all over the country to join us in gathering socks
for the month of December, then the first week of January to take them to a
shelter.
“We never realized what we
started and how it would grab hold of people. Within two days of the emails
going out, we were contacted by the radio show Business Unconventional ‘BUnconventional’
710 KNUS-AM Denver to immediately come in and be on their show! Dean Rotbart,
one of the show’s hosts, declared during the take, ‘I got it, let’s do a No-Socks-To-Work
Day! We’ll ask folks to go to work on 12-12-12 without their socks, send us
pictures of their bare feet in their shoes, declaring they and their place of
business supports giving socks to the homeless.’
“First on board was Brad Smith,
owner of Home Smart Reality. He got his whole team involved,
sent pictures and
even had a party on 12-12-12 where Santa Claus had to go without socks! Within
days Coach Karl of the Nuggets took off his socks along with some team members
and sent a picture! The spirit was alive and growing and we had no idea where
it was going to end up.”
ALP: That is truly amazing, and such a great example of how
kindness and goodness can be spread. What are your future plans for the
campaign?
Sue: “What began as
a simple idea has turned into a learning experience and now Phillis and I face the
dilemma of moving it forward. We literally, if we had the capital, could keep
several people employed full time just in doing this. We have tons of ideas…we
are excited of what the potential is.
“And, so yes… it continues… just
this month BYOU Magazine, a self-esteem magazine for young girls had a half-page
article in their February/March issue. Within days of the article 175 pairs of socks
arrived from Florida. We are still receiving socks and working on how to get
bigger and better. We hope that we’ll gather even more socks this year…and then
the year after that and after that…stayed tuned…The Sock-it-to-em Sock Campaign
is growing!”

"Wise Woman" by Caroline Herring
March is Women's History Month and we are celebrating by honoring women everywhere! The seven feminine characteristics enabling women to save the world are collaboration, creativity, intuition, nurturing, strength, trailblazing, and wisdom!
Women are inherently wise. (For historical profiles of wise women, along with selected quotes, check out our previous posts on Eleanor Roosevelt and Anne Frank.) Nurturing
Lorelei Shellist
“When
we ask a question to our higher selves, listen to the answer, and take our own
advice, a shift immediately takes place within our consciousness.”
Lorelei Shellist is a spiritual
psychologist, author, speaker, minister, and life coach. In her book, “RunwayRunAway: A Backstage Pass to Fashion, Romance, & Rock ‘N Roll,” she writes
candidly and boldly about life as a runway model and her struggles with her
fiancé, Steve Clark of Def Leppard, as she watched him drink himself to an
early death.
In the ALP compilation “WomenWill Save the World,” Lorelei shares her perspective on the importance of
nurturing ourselves. Women tend to take care of others, and put themselves
last. This is a great mistake. The better we care for ourselves, the more we
can give to saving the world around us.
Lorelei is currently en route to
India, but she took a few minutes before her plane took off to talk to us about
what inspires her the most!
Lorelei: “It is just the natural loving force that lives inside of me.
Love is who I am. It is who and what we are. When I tune into my heart's work,
all I want to do or be is loving, kind, and compassionate. As a human being
that can be tricky, as sometimes the ego mind gets in the way. At the
University of Santa Monica School of Spiritual Psychology there is a master’s
program called ‘Consciousness, Health, and Healing.’ From taking that class,
the most important quote I can remember is this: ‘Being of service is the
highest form of consciousness available to mankind.’ Notice the word man-‘kind.’
It is just a way of being that I choose to live in this life.”
In the last year, Lorelei has been working on saving the world
in numerous realms:
Education: She graduated from
the Consciousness, Health and Healing master’s program at USM in August.
Lorelei: “This course brought awareness to things I took for granted.
See, it's not just a coincidence that this, or that, happened…there is always a
deeper learning and reason that things occur, even the simplest ones!”
Speaking Engagements: In Fashion and Design Colleges helping art
students find that "secret something" they possess
inside themselves that brings unique and original ideas to their
work.
Fashion: Hosting ceremonies and events including the La Jolla
Fashion Film Festival, a three-day festival showcasing fashion
film directors from all over the world. It is like the Cannes Film Festival but
the film content has only to do with fashion and beauty.
Volunteering: There were three trips to the Valley State Prison
for Women in Chowchilla, and three community outreach workshops in Santa
Barbara County, as Lorelei is a part of a team of USM volunteers for the Freedom to Choose Foundation.
The team of 70 travels to these prisons and Veterans Halls to facilitate healing
workshops using the skills they learned from USM. The workshops are well
received as many of the women have said the volunteers visit them more often
than their own families.
Lorelei: “I cannot tell you how much this service
work helps me in my own life and deepens the
compassion in my heart for others.”
A new workshop: I
AM DREAMS WITH WINGS.
This
"elective" class is for At-Risk Teens in Continuation High Schools
where they earn class credits in order to graduate. Using many of her own
modalities, and those she learned from USM, Lorelei teaches critical life
skills, such as self-confidence, teen esteem, job interview skills, meditation,
poise, posture and personal inner dialogue. She also brings the modeling skills
to the class as they learn to stand straight, tall, and strong inside themselves
And she tells us more
about her trip to India!
Lorelei: “This sprint to India came up on its own. I
have always wanted to go there and for years I have been telling my friends,
designers Lecoanet Hemant, that
I would someday visit them in Delhi. I was their ‘muse’ when I modeled in Paris
for the couture designers back in the 80's. These guys were two of my favorite
clients. Think Dolce & Gabbana of haute couture. Didier Lecoanet and Hemant
Sagar will be my hosts in India.
“And yes, of course
the spiritual guru who lives inside me has planned a runaway retreat to the
Aurovalley Ashram, near Rishikesh by the Gange River at the base of the
Himalayas. This part is just for me... to go inside and give thanks for the
blessings I have, to meet my ‘source’ in a very diverse time and place in my
life too.
“I woke up on a Monday
morning ten days ago and received a message that the time was right to go to
India. Within four days I had frequent flyer mileage flights, invites for
places to stay, a visa, and a very light bag packed.
I'm on the runway again!”

Let us count the ways ...
Strength
Mary Ellen Ciganovich
“I knew I could do
anything I put my mind to doing.”
Mary Ellen
Ciganovich is an educator, author,
and inspirational speaker. As a child she was diagnosed with epilepsy and
later, as an adult, with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). All through her life, it
always seemed as though there was someone telling her what she could not do
because of her illnesses, first her mother and then the National MS Society.
In the book, “Women Will Save the World,” she shares the struggles
she dealt with trying to be “normal.” They proved to be lessons in taking
control of her life and they made her a stronger woman. She saves the world by
raising awareness through her words, both written and spoken. Last fall, we interviewed Mary Ellen about her essay in “Women Will Save the World,” and her own book,
“Healing Words, Life Lessons to Inspire.”
More recently, we caught up with her to see what she’s been doing
lately. It turns out she has been part of more than a few projects this year.
In the Chattanooga area, she has spoken to:
-- Church groups about “Awareness
of the Self”
-- Schools on “Attitude,”
and
-- Ladies Lunch groups on “Health
and Healing”
She was featured on radio shows such as:
-- Winning Life Through Pain with Coach Marla
-- Conversations Live Radio with Cyrus Webb
-- Woman 4 Woman Radio
She wrote several articles for online websites and papers
including:
-- Double Diagnosis: How to Cope with Epilepsy and MS
-- How Awareness Creates Miracles
-- What's Right with our Schools, for the Chattanooga Times Free
Press
-- Interval Training Strengthens Your Heart
-- Healthy Wealthy and Wise: Creating and Keeping the Life You Desire
She was also selected to:
-- Write a portion of Roy Sheppard's new book, "Dear Daughter,
What I Wish I'd Known at Your Age" (expected publication July 7,
2013)
-- Be on the Advisory Board of the new online magazine, "The
Wellness Journey," scheduled to premiere in June. She will also be writing
the Spirituality column for the magazine based on her book, "Healing Words, Life Lessons to Inspire"
On top of all this, she works out every day to keep her epilepsy
and Multiple Sclerosis in balance. She also has clients she works with each
week who keep her especially busy.
ALP: Wow, Mary Ellen! You've been quite the busy lady! Your words are so inspiring to others. Where do you draw your inspiration from?
Mary Ellen: “When I taught middle school, I always taught my students that
they should do what
they love to do and worry about the money secondary. I
tried to impress upon them the fact that they should leave this wonderful world
of ours just a little bit better than when they were born. I have to live what
I teach. I post a 'Truth of the Day' on Facebook every day and then I explain
the Truth. I cannot write these Truths, or teach them to clients or the
groups I speak to, if I do not live them myself. I do what I do to
make the world a little bit better, a little bit more peaceful, and a
little bit more beautiful for my having lived and given back.”

"I'll Stand By You" by The Pretenders
Feminine strength and nurturing have been guiding the world for centuries. (Check out our historical women profiles for more on that.) They are just two of the inherent feminine characteristics helping women to save the world!
This song by The Pretenders describes one woman's devotion to her man, but as we know, a determined woman can accomplish anything!
